Abstract

Plants and plant derived compounds have played an important role in human life in treating diseases and now serve as
lead in the development of new drugs. There is an increasing demand to evaluate the antioxidant properties of plant
extracts or isolated products from plant origin rather than looking for synthetic ones. Cardiospermum halicacabum is
commonly found as a weed throughout India, and is used as vegetable as well as traditional medicine for treating various
diseases. In the present study, we investigated the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) potential of isolated fractions
from the methanol leaf extract of C. halicacabum. The results clearly established that the Methanol-Methanol fraction of C.
halicacabum has tremendous antioxidant potential.
