Abstract

The study aimed to determine the antioxidant potential of Loeseneriella arnottiana root and to compare the impact of
different solvents used for extraction on antioxidant activity. Roots were extracted using water, methanol, ethanol,
acetone, chloroform and petroleum ether by soxhlet extraction method. Antioxidant potential was determined by DPPH
assay and ferric reducing assay. The results showed that methanolic root extract has good DPPH radical scavenging
activity of 94.08% with IC50 value of 14.19µg/mL and highest reducing ability of 94.88±0.05µgAAE/mL. Methanolic
extract also showed highest phenolic content among the six different solvent extracts. Loeseneriella arnottiana root is
proved to have good antioxidant potential.
