ANTI-PROLIFERATIVE EFFECT OF DURIAN FRUIT (DURIO ZIBETHINUS) AGAINST HL-60 CELLS AND ITS PHYTOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to assess the anti-proliferative effect of chloroform, hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol
extracts from durian fruit pulp on human leukemia (HL-60) cells. All the four extracts were tested against HL-60 cells
with MTT assay method. The IC50 concentration of durian fruit pulp for methanol (21.56 µg/ml)8#x38;lt acetate (37.05
µg/ml)lt (51.40 µg/ml)8#x38;lt (69.01 µg/ml) at the end of 48 h. The results of qualitative phytochemical
profiling revealed that methanol extract of durian fruit pulp contains secondary metabolites like carbohydrates,
coumarins, flavonoids, phenols, proteins, terpenoids and triterpenoids. The GC-MS spectral analysis of methanol extract
of durian fruit pulp showed 24 phytocompounds. ATR spectral analysis showed the presence of various functional groups
in methanol extract of durian fruit pulp. The results show that methanol extract of the durian fruit pulp is a potential
anti-proliferative agent.
