PRELIMINARY ANALYSIS ON THEPHYTOMEDICINAL PROPERTIES OF METHANOLICBARK EXTRACTS OF ANODENDRON PANICULATUM (Roxb.) A. DC.
Main Article Content
Abstract
Anodendron paniculatumis a rare woody liana or large climber and it belongs to Apocynaceae family. The current investigation was performed to detect prominent phytochemical groups and preparean outline of the distinct bioactive principles occur in the methanolic bark essence of the plant Anodendron paniculatum with the help of qualitative phytochemical analysis and further subjected to Perkin-Elmer Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry method to reveal thepharmacological scope of the plant. The analysis conducted qualitativelyin the plant revealed the existence of different phytochemical groups such as alkaloids, triterpenoids, flavonoids, tannins, phenolics, saponins, carbohydrates, glycosides, proteins and amino acids. The methanolic extract when subjected to GC-MS analysis confessed the presence of 16 bioactive compounds. These compounds were detected on comparison of their time of retention and peak area with that from literature and by interpreting the mass spectra. Some of the major specific bioactive compounds detected in the study include 3-O-Methyl-d-glucose, γ-Sitosterol, n-Hexadecenoic acid, stigmasterol, squalene, campesterol etc. The analysis indicates A. paniculatum may be a good plant source for therapeutic industry.
