Abstract

A new series of substituted 5-phenyl-1-(5-phenyl)-isoxazol-3-yl)-1H-tetrazole have been synthesized from the reaction of sodium azide, benzonitrile and ammonium chloride followed by acetylation. The resulted intermediate was reacted with substituted aromatic aldehyde to yield substituted 1-(5-phenyl-1H-tetrazol-1-yl) prop-2-en-1-one which upon cyclization with hydroxylamine hydrochloride form titled compounds. The structures of synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, 1H NMR and mass spectral data. All the synthesized compounds were investigated for their in-vitro antioxidant activity by scavenging of DPPH free radical. The result of antioxidant activity revealed that the compounds 21 and 23 have shown potent activity.
